How It Works: Treatment Stages
Water passes through the following stages in order. Each stage is arranged to protect the next one:
- 5 micron sediment filter: Removes sand, rust, silt and particles larger than 5 microns, preventing early clogging of the following cartridges and tanks.
- CTO carbon block filter: Compressed carbon block reduces chlorine, chemical residues, taste and odour, and also acts as an extra mechanical filter for fine particles.
- Siliphos scale inhibitor: Polyphosphate-based Siliphos crystals sequester calcium ions and delay limescale sticking to heaters and fittings. It does not reduce hardness; it slows scale formation.
The limescale stage in this product is a scale inhibitor; it does not lower measured hardness. We explain the difference in our article on scale prevention vs. water softening.
When Is It the Right Choice?
- When an economical pre-treatment is needed at an apartment or home inlet.
- When well water carries sand, silt, rust or odour; also as a protective stage before an automatic softener.
Choosing for Well Water
Besides hardness, well water may contain iron, manganese, turbidity and microbiological contamination. To choose the right stages, first measure your water hardness (how to measure water hardness) and ideally have a laboratory analysis done. If iron and manganese are high, suitable pre-treatment must be added before softening, as they foul the resin. Compare all options on our well water treatment systems page.
Installation and Maintenance
- Cartridges are usually replaced every 3–12 months depending on water quality and consumption; washable cartridges are cleaned periodically (when to replace a limescale filter).
- The AQUA BELLA team can support you with sizing, installation and commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this set need electricity or salt?
No. It works with cartridges; the resin or Siliphos cartridge is replaced when exhausted.
Is it enough for very hard water?
Cartridge systems help reduce the effects of limescale. For very high hardness, an automatic regenerating water softener is the lasting solution.
Will the odour in my well water disappear completely?
The carbon stage reduces chlorine and organic odours. Sulphur or iron odours may need additional pre-treatment; the analysis result is important.
