Villas often have more bathrooms, larger hot water systems, pools and gardens than an apartment, and many use well, borehole or tank water. A villa water softener therefore has to handle higher flow and, in many cases, more than hardness alone: sand, iron, odour and bacteria may also be present.
Mains Water Villas
With mains water the main issue is hardness. A tank-type softener with 25–50 litres of resin and a metered valve suits most villas with 3–5 bathrooms. Where the villa must never receive hard water, for example with a large hot water cylinder, a twin-tank unit such as our Italian tandem softener is the safest choice.
Well and Borehole Water
| Problem | Stage |
|---|---|
| Sand, silt, rust | Washable sediment filter or automatic multimedia sand filter |
| Iron and manganese | Oxidation and iron-removal media, before the softener |
| Odour, taste, chlorine | Activated carbon tank |
| Hardness, limescale | Ion exchange softener |
| Bacteria | UV disinfection on clear, pre-treated water |
Complete sets such as our 4- and 5-stage well water systems combine these stages; see well water treatment systems.
Separate Lines for House, Pool and Garden
Garden irrigation does not need softened water, and softening it only wastes salt. Where possible, branch the garden line before the softener. Pools have their own chemistry; soft water for pool top-up is useful in very hard areas but should be planned with your pool technician.
Sizing
- Number of bathrooms and simultaneous showers (peak flow).
- Hardness and, for well water, iron, manganese and microbiology.
- Pump pressure and inlet pipe size.
- Space in the technical room, drain and power.
Installation and Maintenance
Systems are installed after the pump and pressure tank, with a bypass. Sand and carbon tanks backwash automatically; softeners need salt; UV lamps are replaced yearly. We supply pre-assembled systems, installation drawings and remote commissioning support for your local plumber. See also water softening systems.
Price
Villa systems range from a single softener to complete well water lines. Ready sets start at about $750; see water softener prices and water softener models.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a water analysis for well water?
Yes. Iron, manganese and microbiology change the system design. A basic analysis prevents expensive mistakes.
Should garden water be softened?
No. Branch the irrigation line before the softener to save salt and resin capacity.
Can you ship a complete villa system abroad?
Yes. We ship pre-assembled systems worldwide with installation drawings and remote support.
